About Us: Surgeon Information

Stephen H. Johnson, MD, FACS

Board-Certified Neurological Surgeon

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, after completing his medical school education at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Johnson spent the next several years training in general surgery at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. While there, he completed a Research Fellowship where he focused on novel treatments for spinal cord injury. This propelled him toward a Neurosurgical residency during which he gained additional spine surgical experience on the Orthopaedic Spine service. Upon completion of his neurosurgical training in 1994, Dr. Johnson moved to the South Shore of Massachusetts and joined South Suburban Neurosurgical Associates, Inc. That practice recently reorganized under the new name South Shore NeuroSpine Group, LLC. Dr. Johnson has practiced in this same group since 1994 and has pursued his clinical interests in minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery, complex spine surgery, cranial surgery, and cranial and peripheral nerve surgery. Dr. Johnson is also keenly involved in the socioeconomic aspect of neurosurgery at both the local and national levels.
