A native of Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Johnson completed his undergraduate work in Biochemistry at
Columbia College in New York City. He was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and received his medical doctorate. While a medical student, Dr. Johnson realized that his greatest interest was in surgery. Dr. Johnson completed four years of training in General Surgery at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. As a part of his surgical training, Dr. Johnson spent two years engaged in surgical research on spinal cord injury at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. It was during his tenure at Walter Reed that he recognized his interests in pursuing a career in Neurosurgery. Dr. Johnson was accepted into the Neurosurgical Residency program at the University of Vermont, where he completed five years of residency and one year as Chief Resident. Upon completion of his neurosurgical training, Dr. Johnson moved to the South Shore of Massachusetts in 1994 and joined Dr. Michael DiTullio, Jr. at South Suburban Neurosurgical Associates, Inc. The practice has been recently reorganized under the new name South Shore NeuroSpine. Dr. Johnson's clinical interests continue to be directed toward minimally invasive spine surgery, complex spine surgery, and image-guided brain surgery.
