Office Information: FAQs

How do I make an appointment?

You need to have been evaluated by your Primary Care Physician (PCP) who will determine whether or not you have a condition that requires a neurosurgical consultation. Typically, your PCP will order an imaging study, such as an MRI or a CT scan, to evaluate your problem. Your PCP will advise you to contact our office if you need a neurosurgical evaluation. When you call our office, one of our trained team members will complete a short telephone interview with you. Usually your PCP will fax a copy of the report from your imaging study to our office. We will triage your clinical information and imaging studies to determine if you need to be seen by one of our doctors. We will then contact you to either schedule an appointment for you to come to our office, or we will advise you if you need additional conservative treatment prior to having a surgical consultation.

Do I need a referral?

If you are scheduled for an appointment in our office and if you have an insurance plan that requires you to have an INSURANCE REFERRAL from your PCP to see a specialist, it is your responsibility to contact your PCP and request and insurance referral.

What should I bring with me?

Please bring your MRI or CT films, your insurance card, a list of medications you are taking, a completed Medical History and Registration form (these can be printed from our website in the Office Information: Medical Forms section). You will also need to pay your co-pay at the time of your visit. For your convenience, we accept MasterCard, Visa, and Debit cards.

Do I need to bring my medications with me?

No, you do not need to bring your medications with you. But please bring a LIST of the medications you are currently taking.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Here are a few suggestions for you prior to your appointment:

  1. Write down your questions and issues for the doctor.
  2. Prepare a detailed description of your symptoms.
  3. Bring a list of current medications and dosages.
  4. Make sure the doctor has received all of your test results and reports prior to your visit.
  5. Bring a family member or friend to help you if you need assistance in understanding the information you will receive during your visit.
  6. Take notes while you are with the doctor.

If I am seen in the office, will I have to have surgery?

No, there are many neurosurgical conditions that are treated with conservative therapies, such as Physical Therapy or epidural steroid injections, as a first course of treatment. Your doctor will thoroughly explain your treatment options based on your condition and the findings of your physical examination and imaging studies.
